How calculations work

Our results are estimates — designed to be useful and honest, not to replace the official decision.

What we estimate

From your answers we identify benefits and support you may qualify for. For some benefits (e.g. Universal Credit) we show an indicative monthly amount based on standard allowances and published taper rules.

Assumptions we make

  • You're a UK resident with the right to claim benefits.
  • Figures use the most recent GOV.UK rates known to us.
  • Where you choose "I don't know", we assume the average case.
  • We ignore highly unusual circumstances that need a human adviser.

Why our figures are indicative

The UK benefits system has thousands of edge cases. Capital, housing costs, immigration status, sanctions, deductions and transitional protection can all change your actual entitlement. Only DWP, HMRC or your local authority can give you a final decision.

Language we use

We use words like "may qualify", "indicative", "estimated", "possible" — never "you will get". This is deliberate. The system is too complex for absolutes.
