Methodology
Benefit Check UK exists to help people in the UK understand financial support that already exists — clearly, calmly, and in plain English. Here's how we work.
Our editorial principles
- Plain English first. No jargon, no acronyms without explanation.
- Indicative, not definitive. We always defer to the official decision-maker.
- Verifiable sources. Every figure traces back to GOV.UK or recognised UK guidance.
- Calm by design. We never use scarcity, urgency or pressure tactics.
How we choose what to show
We map answers in the checker to the UK support most relevant to the situation described — including means-tested benefits, non-means-tested benefits, council-administered help, energy and water schemes, and free advice services.
How we stay current
UK benefit rates change at least annually. We review rates against GOV.UK at least quarterly, and after each Spring/Autumn Statement. If you spot a figure that looks wrong, please tell us: hello@benefitcheck.uk.
How we make money
The check, the results and the guides are free. We charge £9.99 for an optional personalised action plan PDF. We do not take affiliate commissions on benefit applications, and we don't run ads.
