Mental health support after redundancy
5 min read
Redundancy is consistently rated as one of the most stressful life events. Looking after your mental health is not a luxury — it's part of getting through this.
Free emotional support
- Samaritans — 116 123, 24/7, free to call. Talk about anything that's troubling you.
- Mind — practical and emotional support around mental health, including a confidential infoline.
- Shout — free text service: text SHOUT to 85258.
- Your GP — can refer you for talking therapies through NHS Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT).
When mental health affects benefits
Anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions can qualify for ESA, the UC limited capability element, and PIP. Awards depend on how the condition affects you day-to-day — not on the diagnosis itself.
Money worries make mental health worse
If money is the trigger, getting free debt advice often helps the most. StepChange and National Debtline offer free, non-judgemental help.
